Today I had my 3D workshop induction learning the health and safety regulations.
For all the equipment used, you have to take off your lanyards so that they don't get caught in anything, hair has to be tied back, wear strong shoes so that if anything falls it doesn't go through them, wear goggles so that incase of an accident your eyes are protected and hearing protection so that you are able to concentrate.
We learnt how to use a pillar drill, band saw, fret saw, bobbin sander, and a disk sander.
We first used the pillar drill to drill a hole into the middle of a piece of rectangular wood, making sure that we were holding the wood securely. We then used the band saw to cut out a circular shape, we had to place the table lock onto the band saw so that it was secure and in place so that we could push the piece of wood against it, giving it a clean cut. After this we had to use the fret saw to cut out a shape from the middle of the wood, we had attach the blade to the machine, making sure that it was in correctly, we then had to tighten the guard lock nut and close the guard so that it was safe to start. Once we had done this, we had to use the disk sander to sand the piece of wood down. Throughout this task, incase of any emergencies there was an emergency button on each machine which would automatically stop it.
