Dominoes’

During yesterday’s dominoes’, we first started in smaller groups to help practice on how to work as a team and how to communicate with other members. As we continued on, we built a bridge in one of the sections, so that it would join onto the main part of domino piece, which we thought worked quite well. Because of this we added this element to our class piece later on that day; however we improved this piece by making it on a larger scale. Also, other parts that didn’t work as well in the smaller groups we left and didn’t use in the class piece and just came up with new ideas.

When working together with new people, we took everyone’s ideas into consideration, which helped us work better as a team. When it came to dividing up responsibilities and tasks, Tia, Katie and I worked on the starting point, coming up with different ideas as we went along, whilst two other members began to work on the finishing piece.

Throughout the task, we began to face a few problems; as we started to test sections of the dominoes’ some parts didn’t work as they weren’t close enough together, so we had move them around until we got them into the correct place. Also, sometimes we would accidently knock one the dominoes’ which would set off all the piece, so we would have to start all over again. To stop this from happening again, we took one domino out every so often, so that if we did knock them over again, it would only be part of it and not the whole thing.

To Record the workshop activities, we took photos throughout the day, so that we had proof of some of our attempts.

Because it was a class attempt, we communicating with other members from different groups so that we knew how to end our piece, and how to join onto the next piece. Producing the domino piece went well as we worked well as a group however, some pieces weren’t close enough together so some parts still didn’t work. I think that we used our time quite well as for the first hour or so, we were just practicing in smaller groups, to see what would work and what wouldn’t work, then for the next 2 hours we worked in the same groups, but on a bigger scale. Then, after dinner that’s when we were put with new people to make a class piece, which helped me get to know more people.

The satisfaction of the day was getting to know more people, which helped me feel more comfortable in the class. My strengths throughout the day were communicating with my group members and listening to others ideas to use in the activities set.

I feel that I could have come up with better ideas for the activity so that I could help improve it more with the other members. It is important to be creative as a designer as it helps come up with more interesting ideas, and maybe even something no one has ever thought of before, which is what being creative means.
